Scotland Troutmasters reports for week-ending January 23rd, 2015

Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
Heavy rain, strong winds, snow showers and freezing temperatures meant that there were not a lot of anglers out this week. However, those who did brave the elements were well rewarded with some excellent fishing and good catches. At the weekend the aerators were on overnight and did an excellent job in keeping the main part of Swanswater and the Millpond and Meadow Pond all ice-free. Throughout the week anglers were amazed by the number of fish seen rising and feeding on something on the surface of all the ponds. At the weekend the fish were around three to four feet down and taking a variety of flies fished with a slow retrieve. Favourite patterns included Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Buzzer and Bloodworm. With the aerators running the Fishery is planning to remain open every day from 8am to 4.30pm during the current cold spell.
Those with the best bags this week were Iain Whitelaw, from Dunipace, with five fish for 15lb plus three caught and released; Frank Barr, Falkirk, five for 15lb, plus two caught and released; Bill Stanfield five for 11lb 12oz from the Meadow Pond; John Mooney, Queenzieburn, four for 10lb 12oz from the boat; Willie Walker, Falkirk, three for 9lb 8oz; Willie Nyguist, Stirling, two for 6lb 8oz; John Relf, Falkirk, two for 5lb 12oz; M. Bradley, Arrochar, six caught and released; C. Parsons, Arrochar, five caught and released.
