Monthly returns for March saw more than 2100 fish caught between the two ponds, with 700 of these from the top pond and 1400 from the bottom pond. These figures included more than 15 brown trout, all duly returned, and at least 10 fish over 5lb from the bottom pond. The number of visits was 600 giving an opening month's catch return of 3.5. However, Cardiff member, Jeff Wilson and long time Newport season permit holder Geoff Evans both landed four fish from the top pond, with Dave Howells adding a good rainbow to his three fish bottom pond result. The bottom pond also saw Ken Bowring land a limit and five further fish from two visits, with a limit also being landed by Hugh Davies. Roger Martin from Taffs Well caught six fish from successive visits while Ken Pascoe caught five and then seven trout, with the latter catch being made with a Hare's Ear nymph from Pipe Bay. Association president Martin Williams caught five rainbows, while Adrian Connor took his three fish from Pipe Bay using a Cat’s Whisker. Mike Tully celebrated his new season permit with five fish from two visits, a Hare's Ear nymph again being the effective fly. Day ticket visitor Bob Cook and head bailiff John Mcindo each landed a brace of fish, while Steve Mitchell fished from Pipe Bay to take two trout on a Shuttlecock Buzzer. Boat anglers Shaun Cotterell and Bob Bradley each landed three rainbows.

At the weekend day ticket visitor Kevin Small landed seven fish from the bottom pond while N. Jackson caught a brace of rainbows, including a 2lb 7oz specimen. Day ticket member Richie Young also caught two rainbows, again from the bottom pond.
