Record grayling bid

A WORLD record could soon be Richard Hart’s, after he took this 3lb grayling on the River Frome.

The fish is a potential new IGFA All-Tackle Length record, having been measured at 50cm, and he now plans to make a formal submission to the USA-based IGFA (International Game Fish Association). The existing record belongs to Frank Mueller who hooked a 46cm grayling in Bavaria, Germany, in November 2014.

IGFA began promoting a quicker release of caught fish several years ago, by declaring records based on length only, for a select number of species that are released alive.

Richard, who is British but lives in Florida, was fishing a private day ticket stretch of the Frome, run by John Alpin of Casterbridge Fisheries. He was being guided by guide Alex Jardine.
