Cwm Hedd Lakes, Gwent
A quiet week in terms of angler numbers, no doubt a result of some extremely unpleasant weather. Paul Elsworthy caught 11 fish using a black emerger and a ghost-tip line. Included in Paul's haul was a stunning 6lb 12oz brown trout (returned). Christian Jones, Jason LLoyd and Martin Rees caught 30 fish between them on a very blustery Saturday. On the same day John Eynon and James Williams each took one and released four and five respectively. Stuart Thomas netted a rainbow of 5lb 6oz, which was safely returned. On Thursday Ken Pascoe took one and released nine, while Garry Wharton took one and brought another six to the net including a brown. Steve Mogg had a great time on Friday, taking one and releasing 10. Successful flies are grey nymphs, Grey Hopper, black emerger, Damsel, Squirmy Worm, Blob, Egg Fly, Hare's Ear, Bloodworm, Black Tadpole, Diawl Bach, Cat’s Whisker, Montana, Shipman's Buzzer and Snake. It's all about finding the fish, what depth they're at and trying out different flies.
The Heart Wales raffle tickets are selling well. There's a limit of two tickets per person (tickets £1 each), with the raffle to be drawn at the Funky Fly Tying event at Cwm Hedd on Saturday December 12. The limit of an hour and half or four fish is working well in respect of the point of the island, with all who wanted to try it being able to book their slot this week. Remember to book your place on arrival. Remember that there is a four fish limit on any platform (but only a time limit on the main island point).
