Scotland Troutmasters reports for week-ending January 20th, 2017

January 20, 2017 Beverly Winram

Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
The cold, snowy weather led to a quiet week at Swanswater. Those who ventured out from Tuesday to Saturday all caught fish. The beginning and end of the week were a bit harder with the water temperature sitting at 2oC and the fish deep in the water. The aerators were on overnight on the coldest nights and managed to keep most of the ponds relatively ice-free. The area around the dam was the most productive for most of the week. It was a good start to the year for Dunipace angler Ian Whitelaw, who landed a cracking 11lb 10oz rainbow in his bag of five for 24lb. Most fish were taken on lures such as Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Humungus and Fritz patterns, with Bloodworm, Buzzers and Damsel also taking a few.
Andy Tervit, from Paisley, caught a 6lb rainbow; Colin Clement, Tyndrum four fish for 13lb; Frank Barr, Falkirk, four for 12lb 8oz, plus four caught and released; Malcolm Miller, Clackmannan, three for 9lb 8oz plus three caught and released; Willie Martin, Stirling, three for 8lb; Alan Burke, Falkirk, three for 8lb; Lee Currie, Bannockburn, two for 6lb 4oz including a 4lb 4oz gold; Les Cooper, Dunblane, a 4lb 4oz goldie; Mark Reid, Livingston, caught and released 12 fish; Marcus Tripney, Grangemouth, caught and released seven.
