Ynys y fro Reservoirs, Gwent
Preparations are well in hand for the start of the 2017 season with a great deal of maintenance work having been carried out by a small group of members, Some extra space has been created for car parking via trimming back of overhanging bushes etc, plus clearly marked individual parking spaces. In addition, the Association is receiving support and guidance from Natural Resources Wales in ensuring the maintenance of a high standard of water quality, in particular for the bottom pond. Insofar as membership of the Association is concerned, a limit of 250 members will be applied for the new season. All existing members are again urged to renew their membership by March 1. Renewals can be carried out via contact with Phil Harper, membership secretary, or at the Annual Social evening. Permit and day ticket prices will remain as for last season. For fully paid-up members, season permits at £235 with day tickets remaining at £8. Visitors day ticket prices will remain at £12 (available at the reservoir). Boat prices will also remain the same. The Association also plans to extend the existing day ticket for either members or visitors, to include free fishing for a young person ie 16yrs and under, fishing under the direct supervision of the accompanying adult.
Arrangements are well in hand for early season stocking with at least 2000 rainbow trout up to 3lb being purchased to cover both ponds from opening day (March 4) up to the end of March. There will also be a further stocking of brown trout for the top pond. Members are again reminded that the Annual Social evening will take place at Risca Rugby Club on Friday, February 24 from 7pm onwards. There is a free buffet and raffle and members planning to attend should forward their acceptance slips to the membership secretary Phil Harper as soon as possible.
