Forbes of Kingennie, Tayside
Kingennie witnessed a wide range of weather conditions during the week and the catch results reflected this on the fly-only and the any-legal-method ponds. On the Boathouse Mr Eagon took 4 fish for a total of 13lb and returned a further 3. Mr Clark had 2 fish for 11.25lb with one at 8lb. Mr. Walker also did well with 2 fish for 11lb including one at 7.50lb. On the catch/release side of things Messrs. Millington and McClay both returned 10 fish each. Several fish fell to dries (Yellow Owl, Shipmans) whilst others were taken on Buzzers, Cormorants and small lures. The Burnside Pool fished steadily on most days. Mr Watson returned 10 fish; George Birse returned 9 and Angus Dixon released 8. Dries and Buzzers took most of the fish although small lures did achieve some success.
Although the Bankside Pool was less heavily fished there were still some decent returns. Nick Soave had 2 fish for 8lb with the bigger one weighing 6.25lb. Ian Gordon returned 10 fish on catch/release and Mr Cunningham returned 8. Lures (black/green patterns or Damsels) and Cormorants accounted for the majority of the fish.
Powerbait fished beneath a float again reigned supreme on the Woodside Pool, although several decent fish were landed on small spinners. On Saturday 17 anglers took 30 fish for a combined weight of 76.50lb. Sunday also produced an outstanding result with 29 anglers taking 41 fish totalling 90lb.
Glen of Rothes Trout Fishery, Grampian
Wind and rain made the first half of the week a wash-out but the weekend was great, apart from some showers on Saturday. But it didn't dampen spirits as fishing was really good and plenty of fish were caught. Many anglers registered more than 20 fish for their days and plenty of big fish caught and returned, heaviest estimated between 14lb and 16lb. Rob Harding had fish of 9lb 2oz and 5lb 13oz. Tom Webster and Wullie Olsen had a great time with more than 50 fish each on their couple of days. A return competition from the Chatton Chasers saw a great bunch of lads fish against the Glenbuies club, both at the Glen and Millbuies, then there was the Fritz ‘n’ Flies competition on Sunday. Winner was Jim Tuck, second Tracey Tuck and third Jimmy Rhind. Despite it being a competition it was taken in the spirit of fun and everyone enjoyed the day.
Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
The fishing continues to be very good with the fish generally in the top two feet of the water. Some anglers, particularly those fishing from boats, were going deeper and also having success. Small natural flies doing as well as anything just now with fish taking nymphs, wets and still some dries. Water clarity is excellent and the temperature is sitting at 10oC. The catch returns do not always tell the full story with many fish following and chasing but not taking, being hooked and lost or just being seen actively moving just below the surface. Plenty of golds and blues feature in the returns along with some bigger rainbows. The brown trout season has now finished and all browns must now be carefully returned to the water. The Fishery is now open every day from 8am to 6.30pm.
