Ynys y fro Reservoirs, Gwent
There have been definite signs of an improvement in fishing, particularly on the bottom pond with plenty of fish showing, mainly in the early morning and late afternoon/evening, but still providing a challenge. Among the returns for the week, Ken Bowring landed a limit plus two fish on a second visit while his regular fishing companion Roger Martin landed seven rainbows over one day's fishing. A four-fish catch was recorded by Keith Higgins (on two occasions), Dave Howells and day ticket holder Gethin Bowles. Two-fish returns were achieved by Keith Higgins, Chris Daniels, Shaun Cotterell, Dave Slocombe, Sally Ann Iles, Martin Rees, Terry O'Connor, Ian Hewitt, Roy Marsh, Dave Scott and John Mcindo, with Shipman’s Buzzers, Diawl Bachs, Hoppers, Hawthorn flies and Blobs taking most fish. The stretch of bank from the house to and including Farmhouse Bay produced good catches. Boat users taking limits included Ken Pascoe, Craig Bowles and Colin Poole. Dave Howells boated six fish, Craig Williams, Dave Kane and Dave Smith each caught four fish, while committee member Brian Wareham fished alongside Mike Brake to take four fish with Mike landing two trout. The same fly patterns effective from the bank also found fish from the boats. On the top pond day ticket visitor Tom Hughes landed three fish with Chris Daniels, Bryn Burgess and Alan Rees each catching a brace of trout.
At the weekend, apart from Dean Connelly with three fish and Dave Woods with a brace, the top pond has been overshadowed by the bottom pond, in terms of fish caught. On the bottom pond, some good returns have been made, particularly from the bank area around the golf course and the dam, with Hawthorn patterns attracting most fish. Adrian Moyse landed five rainbows, while Terry O'Connor registered eight fish over three visits. David Price also caught five with a number of anglers recordinga two-fish return, including Del Haines, Dave Kane, John Mcindo, Brian Wareham, Dean Connelly, James Williams and Bernard Hartland whose catch included a blue trout. Another blue trout was caught by Adrian Connor fishing from the dam corner. On the Association's boats a six-trout catch was made by John Eynon, Alan Rees landed five fish while Martin Rees netted a brace.
