SCOTLAND TROUTMASTERS REPORTS FOR WEEK-ENDING JUNE 23RD, 2017
Forbes of Kingennie, Tayside
Changeable weather conditions again made presentation difficult on several days but for those who chose the right day, or managed to master the conditions, the rewards were worth the effort. Water-levels and clarity are now almost perfect. On the Boathouse Pool Jock Leslie took top honours returning 20 fish, taken on dries and Buzzers. Mr Wallace took four rainbows for a total of 13lb. Mr Burnett returned 13 and Mr Woods 12. Black or dark olive Buzzers were very productive as were small dry fly patterns (Shipman’s, Yellow Owl).
There has been a lot of surface activity on the Burnside Pool with dries and Buzzers again being the preferred approach, especially fished on the washing-line method. Buzzers or bugs beneath a bung have also done well. Fish of the week was a superb rainbow estimated at 11lb-plus, taken on a Cat Bug beneath a bung and returned by Gordon Matthews. George Birse returned 20, Mr McLearean returned 18 and Mr Leslie 15.
Dries performed well again on the Bankside Pool with Richard Marshall returning 12 and Frank Sherriff returning 11. A couple of very large fish were lost on the pool this week.
The any legal method pool, Woodside, had an up and down week but Powerbait fished beneath a float was still the most productive method. On Tuesday 10 anglers caught 22 fish for a total of 38lb.
Swanswater Trout Fishery, Stirlingshire
Most of the week fish were in the top two feet with a good number of big fish being caught and many anglers reporting having lost decent sized trout. The more overcast days earlier in the week saw great action for the browns with wets, nymphs, Buzzers and dries taking fish close to the surface. The weekend saw rising temperatures, sun and some strong wind resulting in fish going deeper and intermediate lines and lures became more effective. Some evenings have been very productive with fantastic rises if the conditions are right.
Frank Barr, from Falkirk, caught three fish for 13lb including a 7lb 7oz rainbow plus five caught and released; Carlo Pezzani, Tullibody, three for 12lb including a 7lb 12oz rainbow; Alan Whitton, Stirling, four for 14lb 8oz including three browns, one at 6lb 4oz; Willie Nyguist, Stirling, four for 11lb 8oz including a 3lb 8oz brown; Rab McCallum, Bannockburn, two for 9lb 4oz including a 6lb 12oz rainbow; Ricky Goodwin, Larbert, four for 10lb 8oz; Kyle Crossan, Stirling, three for 11lb including two browns; George Dobbie, Glasgow, three for 9lb; Barry Hamilton, Muirhead, three for 8lb 8oz; Jim Craig, Balloch, three browns for 8lb; Robert Park, Glasgow, three for 8lb; Connor Meiklejohn, Stirling, caught and released 11; Brian Lockie, Alva, caught and released eight from his float-tube; Brian Scullion, Glasgow, caught and released eight; Liam Mullin, Pitlochry, caught and released seven.
