Foremark Trout Fishery, Derbyshire
The continuing changeable weather conditions, including bright sunlight and rain, has again played havoc with the fishing conditions. However, the water temperature has slightly improved to 16 degrees C. The aerators are still not operational and hence the fish have continued to spread out across the reservoir rather than be focused around the boils. The fish caught have been dependent upon the actual conditions on the day and significantly there has been some catches within the pontoon basin and off the pontoon when the trout have started spasmodically feeding on the fry. However, it should be noted there has been a few good catches in the centre of the reservoir and the region off the dam wall. With the exception of the pontoon the bank anglers have still found the fishing very challenging. The signs of the fish starting to feed on the fry bodes well for the future. However, dry fly fishing is at the moment providing the best overall catch returns.
On Monday Mr Lord caught 4 fish including a 5lb brown and a blue of nearly 3lb. On Tuesday Mr Scragg caught 4 fish on a Mayfly and Bibios. Thursday resulted in Mr Brownridge boating 4 fish off the dam wall on Black Suspender Buzzers. Mr Wilson returned 5 fish. Friday was the best fishing return of the week, being an overall average of 3.7 fish per rod. Mr Wilson caught 12 fish (FAB and Daddy Longlegs) from the basin, Mr C. Beard landed 9 fish (Orange Blob) from the dam wall and Mr Tapping 6 fish (FAB & Blob). Saturday was memorable as the trout were feeding on the fry around the pontoon resulting in 5 fish being caught from the pontoon. Mr Cotterill, fishing from a boat, had a blue of 2.5lb in a bag of 5 fish.
