Glen of Rothes Trout Fishery, Grampian
Despite the heavy showers the Glenbuies Club had a decent day for their Buzzers and dries comp. Fish were rising well in between showers and it was small Sedgehogs and Buzzers that worked best and fish were not far down. Overall points winner was Jimmy Rhind, closely followed by Sandy Stronach just 2oz behind. Joint third were Chris Johnston and Neil Smith, fourth Andrew More and fifth Damian Masson. The banter was as always very good and an enjoyable time was had by all. This what the club is all about with everyone sharing ideas and helping each other to catch and learn new things. The next away outing is August 13 to Willowgate with transport booked.
Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
It was a variable week, both for weather and fishing. Monday was warm and sunny and the fishing was pretty tough. Things changed on Tuesday when the cooler, overcast weather led to the fish becoming a lot more active and chasing lures and nymphs. Heavy rain on Wednesday coloured the water slightly but the fishing remained good although there were still a lot more takes and follows than there were fish landed. The water cleared quickly and conditions remained good for the rest of the week. The golds, now stocked in all three ponds, are great indicators of where the fish are, due to their high visibility. Anglers can judge the mood of the less visible rainbows, browns and blues by the behaviour of the goldies. Favourite patterns this week included a variety of small lures, Buzzers, and nymphs, with a few fish also taking wets and even the odd dry fly.
