Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
Warm, slightly muggy weather led to an increase in water temperature from 13 to 14oC this week. Water clarity remains excellent except for a little colouration on Saturday after the heavy overnight rain. Early in the week a fairly fast retrieve just under the surface was working well, but as the week went on a slower retrieve was better. During the cloudier spells there was a lot of surface movement but this stopped when the sun came out. The changeable weather meant the fish were on and off at different times. A number of browns up to 4lb 8oz were caught this week, with a good few of them being returned. Some cracking big rainbows were also released or lost during the week. The golds are still proving very visible and providing equal amounts of enjoyment and frustration! The best fly this week on Swanswater was a Diawl Bach, with other nymphs and Buzzers also doing well. On the small pond, dries including Daddy Longlegs and Sedges were the most successful patterns. The Fishery is now open from 8am to 8.30pm every day.
