Bigwell Trout Fishery, Monmouth
With very cold starts the fish have been taking a while to kick into gear but 2018 has begun well with lots of regular anglers coming through the gates, all determined to start the New Year off with a fishing ‘Bang’. David Pearce from Bristol caught a tagged fish to win himself £200, a great start to Daniel’s fishing year. Paul Barnfield kicked off the Troutmasters competition for 2018 with a beautiful 7lb 8oz rainbow caught on a Green Spider in the middle lodge pool. Lloyd Isgrove caught 5 fish, Kevin Brookes caught and released a beautiful 7lb 8oz rainbow from the lower lodge pool on a Black Buzzer. Lyndon Harris had a good day on Thursday, landing 7 fish and missing 2. Lyndon said the lodge pool fish weren't interested in his flies, so he moved to the gin pool, where he caught all his fish on Egg flies and Blue-flash Damsels. Tuesday saw regulars Basil Freeman and Harry Webb having to work hard for their 2 fish on their catch and kill tickets, the only flies working for them were Bloodworms. Wednesday saw 3 anglers from Bristol have a great day’s fishing Mike Wright caught 5 rainbows and 1 blue from across all pools using small Black Buzzers on the drop, David Hemmings caught 3 rainbows from the gin pool on White Minkies and Eddie Marshall caught his 4 rainbow trout from the lower lodge pool on Egg flies and Bloodworms.
