Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
The weather turned a bit colder this week and the water temperature dropped from 8C to 5.5C. Fewer anglers ventured out but most of those who fished were very well rewarded. The water is exceptionally clear and not only were the golds visible swimming around but also some rainbows could be seen cruising. Most fish were taken in the top 3 feet of the water and were mainly attracted by lures with a few taking nymphs or wet flies. Favourite patterns included White Humungus, Cat’s Whisker, Dancer, Damsel, Diawl Bach, Black Nymph and Black Spider. A moderate retrieve was working well and both golds and rain-bows could be seen following flies in to the edge, even if they weren’t taking. Once again, the fish moved with the changes in water tempera-ture with the area around the big tree and the jetty, the far bay and the island all being popular at different times. Those fishing in boats also did well this week. The Fishery is now open 8am to 4pm every day.
Robert Park, from Lennoxtown, in two visits, caught 5 fish for 19lb in-cluding 4lb 8oz rainbow and a gold; Danny Doherty, Denny, 4 golds for 12lb 12oz plus 2 browns released, bigger one estimated at 7lb; John Syme, Crossgates, 4 for 12lb 8oz including a gold; Colin Henderson, 4 for 12lb including 2 golds, bigger one at 4lb 12oz, and a tiger; Barry Hamilton, Moodiesburn, 3 for 10lb 6oz including 2 golds; Gareth Mair, Kincardine, 3 for 10lb including 2 golds plus 1 released; Robert Watt, Glasgow, 3 for 10lb including a gold; Jim McInnes, Falkirk, 3 for 9lb 4oz including 2 golds, plus 5 released; Gavin Johnston, Stirling, 3 for 8lb in-cluding 2 golds; David Baird, Glasgow, on two tickets, 6 for 13lb 12oz from the Meadow Pond including 4 golds; Alan Armstrong, Dollar, 2 for 6lb 8oz; Alec Hyslop, Cardross, 2 for 6lb including a gold; Gregor McGregor, Falkirk, 2 for 5lb including a tiger; Rab Cochrane caught and released 12 fish; Kenny Halley, Cambusbarron, caught and re-leased 9, including 6 in 8 casts!
