Forbes of Kingennie, Tayside
The settled weather has resulted in angling numbers steadily rising and the fishing has responded with some decent catches. Liam Kirk stole the show on the Boathouse Pool, returning a magnificent 29 fish taken on various dries, Buzzers and nymphs. Mr Hill released 6 fish and Mr McCallum returned 5. The Aubrey group took 5 fish for a combined weight of 23lb with the best fish being a fine rainbow of 10.50lb. The deeper Burnside Pool had a lot of surface movement but the fish were not that easy to catch. Some did find the correct method and flies to produce excellent results. Messrs. Hogg and Patterson returned 11 fish each, while Tam Costello and Scott Watson released 9, taken mainly on Black or Olive Buzzers. Dry flies also did well with Shipman’s variations, Yellow Owl and emerger patterns being the better choices. Powerbait beneath a float or legered accounted for the best returns from the Woodside Pool (any legal method). Spinning also selected some reasonable fish. Mr Maxwell had 4 rainbows for a total of 8.50lb; Mr Taylor took 3 for 7lb and Mr Jones had 2 on a Mepps spinner for 5.50lb.
Swanswater Trout Fishery, Stirlingshire
As always happens, some anglers were doing very well, despite the continuing hot, bright and dry weather leading to some rather tricky fishing conditions. Many others reported getting follows and pulls but not connecting fully with the fish. Depending on whether there was any cloud cover, the fish were either near the surface or fairly deep down. The bank from the dam to the boats was generally the best place to find fish because of the shade provided by the trees. An intermediate line with a fairly fast retrieve was the best tactic. Favourite flies this week included Dancer, Cat’s Whisker, Damsel, FAB, Hare’s Ear, Diawl Bach, PTN, and Buzzer. The Fishery is open till 10pm every evening.
