Scotland Troutmasters reports for week-ending February 19th, 2016

Glen of Rothes Trout Fishery, Grampian
Quite a hard week with snow and ice which unsettled fish never mind the angling. It was hard fishing as fish slowed right down and went down deeper than normal. The best of the catches went to Gordon Grant and Rob Harding who had seven fish. Others struggled with averages around two and some blanks. Heaviest fish at 12lb was caught and returned by David Morgan. Buzzers were the best pattern, used on an intermediate line and a slow figure-of-eight retrieve. Anglers said that they had plenty of pulls but fish just wouldn't connect or commit to hanging on. Plenty of open water on the main loch during icy spells.
Millbuies Trout Fishery, Grampian

Closed until opening day on March 20.

Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
With aerators installed in all three ponds, Swanswater is open as normal despite some very cold nights. In a complete change of weather, it was cold and bright most of the week which made a welcome change. Saturday was the only really unpleasant day with sleet and snow showers blowing through for most of the day. A cold breeze sprung up towards the end of the week and the fish moved from the channel and island area where they were early in the week back towards the dam and the boats also started doing well again. Generally the fish are still around two to four feet down with some anglers catching on floating lines and wet flies. Most fish were taken on intermediate lines and a variety of lures or nymphs. Favourite patterns included Damsel, Dancer, Cormorant, Ally McCoist, Daiwl Bach and Buzzer. The Fishery is now open 8am to 5pm every day.
