Scotland Troutmasters reports for week-ending February 5th, 2016

Glen of Rothes Trout Fishery, Grampian
A week of storms, snow and cold conditions greeted anglers and didn't make for an enjoyable fishing experience for anyone. The only decent day was at the weekend and even though snow lay on the ground at least there was no wind and fish were topping and active. Anglers took advantage of this and had there were plenty of fish for some while others had a few or at least plenty of pulls. Iain Munro had 11 fish; Gordon Grant 10; Chris Johnston 13; Neill Smith 14; Willie McRobbie 12; Jimmy Rhind seven; Ali Hunter had a fish of 4lb 10oz; and Mark Bell had the best fish of the week at 10lb. Best flies overall were in white including Blobs, Fritz and Okey Dokeys. Some anglers also caught on olive patterns.
Millbuies Trout Fishery, Grampian
Not long now until the lochs open for the new season with fish ordered ready for March 20, opening day, which is fully booked. There is a huge head of resident fish in the lochs which will produce some great sport in the coming year. There are six 6 boats available this year.

Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire
Yet again the stormy weather dominated the week and only a few hardy anglers made their way to Swanswater to enjoy some excellent fishing. The water level was very high midweek but dropped and cleared by the weekend when anglers were greeted by lying snow and sleety showers! The fish were mostly in the far bay and the bridge area during the week and moved to the front of the island and the channel at the weekend. Lures or Buzzers took most of the fish although a few were also caught on nymphs such as Diawl Bach, Montana and Damsel. The Fishery is open every day from 8am to 4.30pm. C. Dillon, from Glasgow, caught a 5lb 8oz rainbow; Willie Nyguist, Stirling, landed four for 11lb including two blues; Malcolm Miller, Clackmannan, three for 11lb 8oz; C. Brown and L. Aitken, Glasgow, shared six for 17lb 4oz from the boat including a blue; Paul Christie, Alloa, two for 7lb; Kevin Fyall, Tillicoultry, John Middleton, Shotts, and Frank Boggie, Helensburgh, each landed two fish for 6lb; Alan Burke, Alloa, caught a 4lb 4oz rainbow; and Stewart Marshall, Cambusbarron, a 4lb rainbow.
